Spurs run riot, scoring 4 without reply at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Sheffield United fell to an away defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. Both sides arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Spurs were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two matches against Fulham away and Burnley at home, by 1-0 and 4-0 respectively. Sheffield U had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion. Following today’s result, Spurs are in 5th place, with 56 points from 34 matches, while Sheffield U sit in 20th, with 17 points from 34.

Spurs didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Gareth Bale opening the rout at the 36 minute mark, finishing the first half 1-0.

The Lilywhites continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Gareth Bale finding the net again at the 61 minute mark. Spurs looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a hat trick effort from Gareth Bale, 69 minutes in to establish a 3-0. Spurs then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Heung Min Son, on 77 minutes with a final score of 4-0.

Spurs brought on Harry Winks, Steven Bergwijn and Erik Lamela for Giovani Lo Celso, Gareth Bale and Dele Alli. Sheffield U brought on Oliver Burke, Sander Berge and Lys Mousset, to replace Rhian Brewster, Jayden Bogle and David McGoldrick.

There were bookings for Pierre Hojbjerg from Spurs, and John Egan, for Sheffield U.

Spurs will play away against Leeds United, while Sheffield U will face Crystal Palace at home.
